Are you too busy to clean? Do you put it off as long as possible? Here are 12 ways to stay on top of housework so that it isn't such a chore.
1. Pick up and put away anything that's out of place - on a daily basis. Don't wait for dishes, clothing, newspapers, etc. to pile up.
2. Have a plan of attack. Clean one room at a time, from left to right and top to bottom. Assign specific cleaning duties to specific days of the week.
3. Always sweep, mop, wax, or vacuum floors last. Dirt from whatever you are cleaning or dusting above will just settle onto the floor again.
4. Start with the least abrasive cleanser possible, only reaching for the tougher stuff if you just can't get it clean. Use warm water and dish detergent on everything except for wood.
5. Avoid spraying cleaner or furniture polish directly on a surface. Save time and your furniture by applying cleanser or polish to a sponge or rag instead.
6. Use an after-shower mildew-prevention product such as "Clean Shower" daily in your shower.
7. Use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean the grease from stovetops and range hoods. You can also use this solution to clean mirrors and windows.
8. Use newspaper to wipe windows and mirrors. Newspaper is coated with an ink-drying agent that helps prevent streaks.
9. Clean carpet spills a soon as possible. If club soda can't get the stain out, use "Resolve."
10. Use a sticky lint roller rush to remove pet hair from furniture. To avoid this task altogether, drape a pet blanket on your kitty's or pooch's favorite spot and toss it in the wash as needed.
11. Don't forget to clean the top of the refrigerator, dust picture frames and mantles, and the wall and areas behind doors at least once a month.
12. Unexpected guests pulling into the driveway? Fluff pillows and smooth slipcovers to quickly neaten up a room. If your guests called ahead, you can also quickly shine faucets and other metal fixtures with a paper towel and Windex.
