HOW TO CHOOSE A HVAC CONTRACTOR

Do your homework before you have any work done on your home. Don't just hire any contractor to do your HVAC work.
Use this checklist to select a professional who you can trust with your most valuable asset.
  • Does the contractor have a license? Do all technicians employed hold valid licenses for the work they perform?
  • How long has the contractor been in business? The longer the better.
  • Have you called the Better Business Bureau? They can alert you to any outstanding complaints.
  • Can the contractor show proof of workers compensation? If not, you would be liable for any accidents on your property.
  • Ask to see a list of references and call them. Would they hire the same contractor again?
  • Will the contractor provide a clearly written estimate and contract? Get everything in writing; the more professional looking, the estimate and contract, the better.
  • What are the contractor's problem solving policies? Are guarantees offered on the work and the products used? All policies and warranties should be listed on the contract.
  • Does the contractor belong to any professional organizations? Although it is no guarantee of the quality of a contractor's work, it may tell you something about the contractor's commitment to the industry and profession.
